FAQ
-
Who do you work with?
I work with people in Iowa who look successful on the outside but are struggling on the inside. My clients are often the ones everyone else depends on—the driven professionals, the reliable leaders, the high achievers. They are executives, medical professionals, attorneys, and first responders who excel at what they do, but the pressure is taking a toll. If you're an adult in Iowa running on empty and know something needs to change, I'm here to help.

How do I schedule an appointment?
Scheduling your initial free 15-minute consultation is simple. You can click on any of the “Schedule Now” buttons conveniently located at the top, bottom, and throughout every page. These buttons will directly lead you to my secure online scheduling page, where you can easily book your consultation by providing some basic information.
-
What is online therapy (telehealth) like and what technology do I need?
Online therapy is very similar to in-person therapy, with the added benefit of convenience and flexibility. We'll connect for our sessions through a secure and confidential platform.
For sessions, you'll need a reliable internet connection and a device with a camera and microphone (like a computer, tablet, or smartphone). Many clients also find headphones helpful for privacy and sound quality.
-
What are the length and rates of sessions?
My standard individual and couples therapy sessions are 45 minutes long. Longer sessions may also be available upon request.
Your initial step can be a free 15-minute consultation call, where we can briefly discuss your needs and see if we're a good fit before you commit to a full session.
For ongoing therapy, my rates are $200 for an individual session and $250 for a couples/relationship session.
-
Do you accept insurance?
No, I operate as private pay only, meaning I do not directly bill insurance companies. However, I can provide you with a superbill, which is a detailed receipt of services that you can submit to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement.
It's worth noting that many professionals often choose not to submit superbills for insurance reimbursement due to privacy concerns. Submitting a superbill requires me to assign a mental health diagnosis, which then becomes a part of your permanent health record with your insurance company.
-
What is your cancellation policy?
I require 24 hours' notice for any cancellation or rescheduling of an appointment. If you cancel or miss your session with less than 24 hours' notice, you will be charged the full fee for that session.
-
Is everything confidential?
Yes, absolutely. Everything discussed in therapy sessions remains strictly confidential between us. As a licensed professional, I adhere to rigorous ethical guidelines and federal privacy laws, including HIPAA, to protect your privacy. The only exceptions to this confidentiality are specific legal requirements, such as if there is a serious and immediate risk of harm to yourself or others, or in cases of suspected child or elder abuse, as mandated by law.
Your participation in therapy is completely private and will not be disclosed to employers, licensing agencies, government entities, or anyone else without your explicit written consent. This is particularly important for individuals in high-visibility roles. You can trust that your sessions and personal information will remain completely private.
-
Do you offer in-person sessions?
No, I exclusively offer telehealth sessions through a confidential and secure online platform. This provides you with the convenience and flexibility to access support from anywhere across the entire state of Iowa.
For couples sessions, you also do not need to be in the same physical location; you can connect from separate devices, making it even more convenient.
-
Do you offer evening or weekend sessions?
No, my current hours are between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
-
How long does therapy last?
The length of therapy truly varies from person to person, as it depends entirely on your unique goals, the challenges you're facing, and what you hope to achieve. Some clients find that a few months of focused work helps them address a specific issue or navigate a difficult transition. Others may prefer to engage in therapy for a longer period, building deeper insights and working through more complex or long-standing patterns.
Ultimately, this is a collaborative journey, and we'll regularly check in on your progress and re-evaluate your needs. My aim is to equip you with lasting tools and understanding, so you can navigate life's challenges with greater resilience and confidence, long after our sessions conclude.
-
How often do we meet for sessions?
Typically, clients find it most beneficial to begin with weekly sessions. This consistent rhythm allows us to build momentum, maintain continuity in our discussions, and make steady progress toward your goals. As you gain tools and experience improvement, we may explore moving to bi-weekly sessions if that aligns with your needs and therapeutic progress. We'll always discuss and decide on a schedule that works best for your journey.
-
What if I'm unsure if therapy is right for me?
It's completely normal to feel unsure about whether therapy is the right step for you, even if you're experiencing significant challenges. Taking that first step can feel daunting, and you might wonder if your concerns are "big enough" for therapy, or if it will truly help.
My free 15-minute consultation call is specifically designed for this purpose. It's a no-pressure opportunity for us to connect briefly, for you to share a little about what's on your mind, and for me to answer any questions you have about the process or how I might be able to help. There's no obligation to continue beyond this call. It's simply a chance for you to gain clarity and decide if my approach feels like a good fit for your needs.
-
What if I've never tried therapy before?
It's completely normal to feel a bit unsure or nervous if you've never tried therapy before, and many of my clients are coming to therapy for the very first time. You don't need to know exactly what to say or how it "works." My role is to create a safe, non-judgmental, and supportive space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace. There's no right or wrong way to "do" therapy, just an honest space for you to discover insights and build resilience.
-
Do you prescribe medication?
No, as a licensed therapist, I do not prescribe medication. My role is to provide psychotherapy and counseling. If, during our work together, we determine that medication might be a beneficial addition to your treatment plan, I can collaborate with your primary care physician or help you find a psychiatrist who can assess your needs and prescribe medication if appropriate.
-
What if I'm experiencing a crisis or emergency?
My practice is not equipped to handle immediate crises or emergencies. If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. For mental health crises, you can also connect with the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988 anytime in the US and Canada. They can provide immediate support and resources.
